Preserving your kid's art work from school

preserving children's art work, children, school keepsake, photo book,
If you're like me, you probably have your kid's school art work just piled up laying around your house just trying to figure out what to do with it.  You don't want to throw it away because it's your child's masterpiece, but it's also taking up a space.  So, what do you do then?

I'm a sentimental person and want to keep everything that Michael brings home from school.  I decided to start taking pictures of everything so that the rest of the family could see everything that Michael was doing during the school year.

I shared the pictures on our Shutterfly share page that we've created for our close friends and family to see everything that we've been up to.  I love that I have digital pictures of his work, but I wanted to do something even better than burning all the pictures to a disk.

Every so often throughout the year, Shutterfly has a free 20 page 8x8 photo book offer.  I took them up on the last offer and made Michael this special book of his first year of preschool.  The book actually ended up being more than just his art work during the school year.  I added pictures from the different events that happened as well as his class picture for the year.

As you can imagine, there were tons of pictures and it was rather hard to try and get them all in the book, 20 pages is not enough for all that is done during a year of preschool.  I tried to help by making collages through PicMonkey.  The collage above is from the bunny hop they had during their Easter party.

Even with making collages to help consolidate the pictures, I still went over the 20 pages.  If you ever do make a photo book with the offer of a free 20 page 8x8, you can pay an additional cost for each page over the 20.  You can also upgrade to a larger book as well and Shutterfly will reduce your book by the amount of the 8x8 cost.

I just so happened to order the book at a great time.  Not only did I get the first 20 pages free, I also got each additional page 50%!  Pretty awesome deal.  I'm so happy with the way the book turned out and I know that when Michael is older, he'll be happy that I did this for him.  What are ways that you've preserved your children's masterpieces?
