It's been awhile since we've gone over budget - Meal Plans and Grocery Trip for July 24th - 30th

meal plans, $50 weekly grocery budget,
This past weekend we ended up spending some family time and didn't get around to doing the grocery shopping until today, Monday.  Here's what I came up with for our dinner meal plan this week:

  1. Cheese steaks (carry over)
  2. Baked or Grilled Chicken (haven't decided yet)
  3. Steaks (had some in the freezer)
  4. Pizza Casserole
  5. Thick Crust Pizza

Since I'm going to be out of town this weekend, I had to also think about making sure there was stuff for Jon and Michael to eat off of.  Here's what Michael and I were shopping for at Walmart:
  • pizza style shredded cheese  $2.34
  • Nesquick  $4.28
  • corn  $0.98
  • pizza sauce  $0.98 x 2 = $1.96
  • tomato sauce  $0.44
  • 2L Mt Dew  $1.48, on sale for $1.00 x 2 = $2.00
  • 2L Dr. Pepper  $1.48, on sale for $1.00 x 3 = $3.00
We spent $15.38 which was pretty good since I needed to start stocking up our freezer with meat.  On to Wegmans we went.

Here's what Michael and I were able to quickly pick up at Wegmans:
  • pepperoni  $2.39
  • gallon of whole white milk  $3.19
  • OJ  $2.49
  • frozen pepperoni pizza  $4.49
  • apple juice  $4.99
  • pop tarts  $2.89
  • granola bars  $2.49
  • family pack of pork chops  $10.13
  • lemons  $3.45
  • pizza dough  $2.49
Once the cashier told me the total, I knew we went over.  We spent $39.98 at Wegmans.  We ended up spend a grand total of $55.36.  The budget was $50 so, we went over $5.36.  Not too bad since I was buying some extra stuff for the boys while I'm gone this weekend and starting to replenish our freezer of meat.  I always try to keep some money unspoken for in the checking account in case something like this happens.  When I got home, I scanned the Walmart receipt to their savings catcher app and earned $0.20 for the frozen pizza, $0.20 for the gallon of milk, $0.20 for the granola bars, and $1.23 for the purchase of the 3 Dr. Peppers all through Ibotta.
