4th of July vacation at Rehoboth Beach, DE

A few years ago we decided to take our vacation during the 4th of July holiday.  My in-laws had purchased a trailer in Rehoboth Beach, DE earlier that year and we took them up on their offer of letting us use their trailer.

Since we were staying somewhere that had a kitchen, we went grocery shopping and got all the food that we needed to enjoy our vacation and holiday.  Having the ability to cook your own meals can really help keep your vacation as cheap as possible.  Also a free place to stay is an added bonus!

The vacation trailer is actually located on Rehoboth Bay.  On the 4th, we road the bikes down to the bay and watched not only the fireworks from Rehoboth Beach, but almost all the other beaches in the area.  It was really nice.  Michael swung on the swings by the bay and we didn't have to deal with finding a parking spot.

We ventured down to the board walk and didn't want to bring the stroller down to the beach.  Since Michael was only 13 months at the time, we used our awesome carrier and had him hanging out on our backs.  We had nice ice cold water in a bottle for him that was attached so he could keep hydrated.

We did head down to the beach during our stay and at that time, Michael hated it.  Didn't even want his feet in the sand.  Needless to say, we didn't stay on the beach for very long.  If you want to go to a less crowded beach, my in-laws have found that going to Cape Henlopen State Park to be less crowded and much nicer.

One of the things that I love about the boardwalk is funland.  It's a great place for the kids to have some fun even if they don't want to play in the sand.  Michael had a blast and was actually his first time riding amusement park style rides.  The rides are on a ticket system so, we bought a book of 100 tickets.  I love that the tickets are good for life!  It's a good thing because I think we have a little more than 50 tickets left from that book.

There are plenty of little shops and restaurants on the boardwalk.  So, if you don't want to lug a packed lunch with you, there's plenty to choose from.  There's also a band stand that holds the summer concert series as well as many other events.

If you're not a fan of the beach, like me, there are the Tanger Outlets that you can spend hours at.  The plus about outlets in Delaware is that it's tax free!  Make sure to bring your walking shoes.

Have a kid that loves the water, but not the ocean like Michael?  Try out Jungle Jim's.  We haven't been, but my nephews love going there.  It looks like there's something for all ages to enjoy.

It's been about two years since we've been to Rehoboth, but when we're there we normally go to the community pool, biking around the neighborhood, and heading to the beach to play in the sand.  What kind of fun stuff do you do when you're at the beach?  I do know that if you're wanting a more family fun beach experience, Myrtle Beach would be a much better place to go and the water is much warmer.  I think next year we'll be taking a vacation down to Myrtle so stay tune for that.
