Hand and Feet Turkey Prints

I've always been about decorating the house for the different holidays, but Thanksgiving is one of the holidays I don't have a lot of decorations for.  Last year we made turkey decorations for the family and I wanted to try and make something different.  I've been wanting to do hand and feet prints with Michael for the past few years, but he has hated getting paint on his hands.  This year he was excited to get paint on his hands and feet (thank you preschool)!

I had seen this several times on Pinterests, on a t-shirt, a plate, or just on paper.  I had bought these 5x7 canvases from Michaels a few years ago and thought they would be perfect for this project.

We originally planned on using red and yellow for the feathers and brown for the body.  As you'll see later, the feathers needed more.  We decided to add orange.

I poured the paint on their own paper plate and put Michael's hand in.  Make sure the hand is completely covered with paint.

Michael didn't quiet understand what we were wanting him to do and wanted to move his hand around on the canvas.  He eventually got the idea.

We had to dry the paint before adding the next color on so that it didn't smear.  Since we didn't have time to watch paint dry, I got the hair dryer out and got it dried within the matter of minutes.  With the yellow paint, we used Michael's left hand and tried to place it like the feathers would lay on a turkey.

I blow dried them again and we added the orange.  It really does help make it look fuller.  We just did one print with the orange and in the center.

One last time with the blow drier.  Time to put the turkey's body over the feathers.  Press the foot, we chose his right one, on the canvas.  You want to make sure that all the foot is being pressed.  We had to reposition his foot the first time because half of the foot did not transfer over.

The next morning I wrote with green paint "Give Thanks", Michael's name, and the year.  I let that dry while I worked on some other things.

I still had the eyes and felt leftover from the turkeys last year.  I decided to use them for the face instead of painting them on.  Just cut out little beaks from the felt and glued that and the eyes on.

There you have it!  A nice Thanksgiving decoration that was made by Michael.  These were made for Jon's family.  Hopefully Michael will be up to making these tomorrow or sometime this weekend for my family.  Maybe this could be a fun activity to do after your big meal on Thanksgiving.
