Really liking staying under budget - Meal Plans and Grocery Trip for October 24th - 30th

Even though the week of Halloween is long gone, I still wanted to write about our meals we had planned for that week and what our grocery trip was like.  Here's what was planned:

  1. French bread pizza
  2. hamburgers
  3. Shake-n-bake pork chops (had the Shake-n-bake already)
  4. hot dogs (already had the hotdogs and buns)
  5. chicken enchiladas (already had the chicken and enchilada kit)
As always, Walmart was our first stop.  This list was rather long.  Here's the list and the prices for each item:
  • loaf of French bread  $1.00
  • Mickey shaped cheese  $2.43
  • shredded mozzarella cheese  $2.48
  • chicken strips  $3.98
  • gallon of distilled water  $0.88
  • fruit gummies  $2.00
  • hamburger buns  $1.28
  • pizza sauce  $0.98
  • rinse aid  $3.57
  • shampoo  $1.50
  • spaghetti sauce  $1.95
We ended up spending $22.77 at Walmart.  Not too bad with the long list we had.  We decided to use other money to pay for the Halloween candy that was bought during this trip.  It would have taken up a huge chunk of the grocery/personal care/household items budget.

Jon and Michael ended up going to Wegmans the next day because I was working on a time sensitive project for someone.  Here's the list that they had to work with:
  • hamburger  $5.03
  • 2 gallons of lemonade  $2.49 x 2 = $4.98
  • onion  $1.89
  • OJ  $2.49
  • pepperoni  $2.29
  • pork chops  $5.19
They spent $24.05 at Wegmans.  Not bad for buying meat and drinks for Michael's Halloween party at school.

We had the normal $50 budget plus the $8.38 carry over from the week before, making the new budget $58.38.  The grand total spent was $46.82.  That made us under budget yet again by $11.56!
