Doing good with staying under budget - Meal Planning July 18th - 24th

Before we headed out to do our grocery shopping on Friday, we decided on what dinners we would be having for the week.  Here's what we decided on:

  1. pizza
  2. bbq pork chops
  3. spaghetti
  4. hamburgers
  5. grilled chicken
We started our Friday like we always do, have lunch and then start our grocery shopping at Walmart.  Here's the list and the prices for each item:
  • apple juice  $2.48
  • 2 gallons of distilled water  $0.88 x 2 = $1.76
  • birthday card for our nephew  $3.34
  • birthday card for Jon's grandfather  $3.34
  • pizza sauce  $0.98
  • chicken strips  $3.98
  • hamburger buns  $1.18
  • spaghetti sauce  $1.88
We ended up spending a total of $20.81.  Pretty good with buying two birthday cards!

As always, Michael ended up falling asleep on the way home.  I dropped Jon and Michael off at home and then head to Wegmans to finish the shopping.  We had to get the grocery shopping done on Friday because we were heading out of town the next day.  Here's the list for Wegmans and the prices for each item:
  • green pepper  $1.24
  • potato chips  $2.50
  • gallon of whole milk  $3.49
  • OJ  $2.49
  • pizza dough  $2.49 x 2 = $4.98
  • pepperoni  $2.29
  • mozzarella shredded cheese  $2.79 x 2 = $5.58
  • 1 lb ground beef  $3.55
  • 2 pork chops  $4.79
The total spent was $31.89.  Not too bad since I did buy some meat.  Since we had $10 carried over from the previous week, we had a total of $60 to work with.  The total amount that we ended up spending was $52.70.  That makes us $7.30 under budget.  I also earned $0.25 for the spaghetti sauce and $0.25 for the bag of potato chips through Checkout 51 (I will be doing a post about using this app/website soon).
