A fun thing to do during your Cub Scout den meetings during the Christmas season is to have them make their own Christmas ornament.  Not only is it a fun activity, it will be something that will help bring back the memories they had that year every single Christmas.  I know that the ornaments I made during my Girl Scout years are some of my treasured Christmas ornaments.

So, last year Jon thought the idea of having the boys make an ornament was a great idea.  The Lion program is a new den that has been added to the Cub Scouts for those boys in kindergarten.  Since the boys were 5 - 6 year olds, we needed to do something rather easy.  Here's how we did it.

What you'll need:

craft glue
Popsicle sticks
craft paint if sticks aren't already colored
ribbon
sissors
print out of Lion logo

I had found a pack of Popsicle sticks that were already colored at the Dollar Tree.  An added bonus for kindergarteners - less mess is best!  Jon had scanned the Lion logo from the parent hand book and printed it out on some card stock.  I went ahead and cut the logos out for each boy and precut the ribbon for the loop.  I also wrote the pack number and the year on the back of the logo.  That way they will always remember their pack and what years they were a Lion Cub Scout.

At the meeting, all the boys had to do was pick what color sticks to use and do the gluing.  From what I was told, all the boys decided to do both blue and yellow even though the sample ornament I had made was all blue.  I actually think, now, that it looks better the way the boys made them.

Once the boys have decided what color sticks they want, you'll want to create the diamond shape with them and then glue them together.  Once you've done that, you'll want to glue the Lion logo to the back of the sticks.  Then glue the ribbon ends together to form a loop and then glue to the back top of the ornament.  Let dry and then let the boys hang the ornament on their tree at home.

There you have it, I rather simple ornament for your Lion Cub Scouts to make at your next den meeting during the Christmas season.  Not only is this a fun, creative activity to do with the boys, you can also help them get into the spirit of the season.  Bring in some Christmas cookies and have some Christmas music playing while making them.  Have fun with it and we would love to see how you made you Lion Cub Scout ornaments.  Post your pictures on our Facebook page Gigglebox Tells it Like it is, tweet them to @WVUGigglebox, or tag us on Instagram @wvugigglebox.
