Making tacos is one of those quick and simple meals that can be made on one of your family's busy nights. Did you also know that making your own taco seasoning will be cheaper and healthier in the long run? No need to buy those taco kits anymore.
Ever since we started this journey of financial freedom we're on, we've been cooking meals at home. After awhile you start to get sick of eating the same meals over and over again. With that in mind, I took to Pinterest to find something new to make that even my picky eaters would eat. Being mostly made in the crock pot/slow cooker was just an added bonus.
Meatloaf is one of those meals that brings me back to my childhood. Since it was my dad's favorite meal and a rather cheap meal to make, my mom would make it frequently. Now that I'm married and a mom, I love sharing things of my childhood with my family. I hope that Michael, once he starts liking hamburger, will have fond memories like I do when eating meatloaf.
If you've ever been to any of the Disney Parks, I'm sure you've seen the Mickey shaped rice crispy treats. They are actually not that hard to make and can help cure any Disney blues you might have. I actually made them for Micheal's Mickey Mouse birthday party a few years ago as the take home treat. Here's how you can have a little Disney at anytime of the year.
Since we are on this journey of eating at home to help keep our spending under control and fix our finances, I'm always looking for meals that my picky eaters will eat. In the past I would make chicken enchiladas via a box kit from the grocery. My husband has actually been asking for them and every time I go to the store with it on my list, the kit is not there. So, off to Pinterest I went in search of a simple chicken enchilada recipe. I ran across this recipe and thought I would give it a try.
Sugar cookies are one of my all time favorite cookies out there. This recipe was normally just made at Christmas, but can be made at anytime of the year. I will say that whenever I bite into a cookie made from this recipe, many memories of making these cookies in my mom's kitchen and eating them at my Grandma's house at Christmas come to my mind. So, since I have many memories from my childhood with these cookies, I have decided to start making them so my son will have those same memories as well.
I love me some apple pie, but live with a husband who does not like pie at all and a preschooler who is still figuring out what he likes. Normally I don't get or make pies unless there will be people over to help eat it, but I had lots of apples from our apple picking we did (Apple Picking at Marker-Miller Orchards) that needed to be used.
Ever get in one of those ruts where you're making the same meals over and over again? Yeah, I seem to get them all the time. That's when I head over to my ever growing food boards on Pinterest to find something that at least Jon and I will both eat. I ran across this recipe on my chicken board and was a little hesitant about it because of the fact that Jon does not like Ranch.
Several weeks ago we went and picked a half bushel of apples at one of our local orchards (Apple Picking at Marker-Miller Orchards). Once we got home I started looking for ideas of how to use the apples. One of my food blogger friends, Sissy over at The Busy Cooking Momma, had just the recipe that I needed!
I ran across this crock pot recipe several years ago on Going Jane via Pinterest. It had been awhile since I had made it and I thought that it would help with getting out of our dinner redundancy. Here's what you'll need to make this awesome Fall comfort meal.
When we were at my Mom's house during Memorial Day weekend, she made this supper easy and delicious meal. I'm all for crockpot meals and Jon really liked it so, it will probably be put in our rotation.
Last weekend I wanted to bring something for our trip down to visit my dad and step-mom. I had decided on apple crisp and had a family recipe that I've made before. I wanted to make sure that my sister-in-law would be able to eat it since she has to eat gluten free. I spoke with her about what I need to substitute to make this simple recipe good for her and my nephew to be able to eat it.
One of the first things I learned to cook many years ago was lasagna, but that was the Chef Boyardee lasagna in a box. I could make it without looking at the instructions on the box, but then they changed their sauce and it just didn't taste the same. Over the past few years, I would just put a Stouffer's lasagna in the over when we wanted lasagna.
I decided to try a recipe, One Dish Supper, that my mom used to make when I was a kid even though my husband does not care for beans and potatoes. It was rather easy to make and fairly cheap.
Today was Michael's Thanksgiving party at school and I was so excited when the sign up sheet was set out last week to see that yes, pumpkin pie was on it and that no one had signed up for it. Ever since Michael started school, I've been pinning on Pinterest different cool things to do for his class parties (Yeah, I'm probably going to be that mom the other mom's will probably hate). The mini pumpkin pie was one of them. I found this off of the blog called makes and takes. She said that she was able to make 12 mini pies, but I was able to make 16 (only needed 13). Here's what you'll need:
Here's a rather simple and delicious side dish to add to any holiday meal, corn pudding. As long as I can remember, my mom has made this with every holiday meal she's made. This year, Jon's family decided to do Thanksgiving the weekend before and his mom had asked me to make this side dish. Because of the size of family we now are, I decided to double the recipe. Here's what you'll need for the regular recipe:
So, I decided to try out a new recipe I found via Pinterest. The original recipe is for when you have leftover spaghetti. I didn't have any so this is how I made the spaghetti boats with fresh spaghetti. The
