Cheddar Box Café

Restaurant review of Cheddar Box Café in Louisville KY, Central Kentucky restaurant review of Cheddar Box Café,

Review guidelines:

1 Fork = I would rather eat dog food.
2 Forks = I would eat there if I was starving.
3 Forks = Not bad; someplace I would occasionally consider eating.
4 Forks = A good place to eat; I will put it into my rotation of places I dine frequently.
5 Forks = One of my all time favorites!

One caveat to note – I am allergic to fish and seafood, so if you are looking for those recommendations, you will have to consult someone else.

Because I have a daughter-in-law with Celiac and a really good friend who is Vegetarian, I will try to point out whether those options are present when I review a restaurant.

Restaurant review of Cheddar Box Café in Louisville KY, Central Kentucky restaurant review of Cheddar Box Café,

The occasion for our visit was a girls’ shopping trip to Louisville.  I was first made aware of Cheddar Box through our annual Holiday Open House trip to Tassel’s Fabric and Furniture in Middletown, KY.  Cheddar Box has catered the Open House for years.  I have eaten at Cheddar Box several times as well as purchased some of their yummy sandwich and appetizer spreads to take home.   Cheddar Box is located in a strip center not too far from Tassel’s in Middletown.  The dining room is quite large as is their carry out/take home store.   I was surprised to learn that Cheddar Box has been in business for 19 years…You can’t argue with success!

The menu is extensive and offers many soups, salads, pastas, and desserts.  As a tea aficionado, I was happy to see a large selection of hot teas.  I chose a half sandwich (Benedictine) and a cup of soup (Chicken Tortilla).  Both were quite yummy.  My dining companions also ordered soup and sandwich combos.  Everyone proclaimed their choice as delicious.  While we were dining, we observed several groups with tea trays.  When we inquired about it, we were told that Cheddar Box does serve “high tea” complete with the sweet and savory three tiered trays by special order.  We will definitely return for that experience next year.

Be prepared for a short wait for a table if you arrive during peak lunch hours.  However, service was both knowledgeable and efficient.  Parking is a bit crowded.  There is a lot in front of the café for the entire strip center which was full when we were there.  We parked in the nursery lot next door.  Cheddar Box offers most of their menu items for take home, including whole pies and other desserts.  Their cheddar pecan spread is second to none for a cheeseball or appetizer spread.
