Meal Plans and Grocery Trip for February 6th - 12th

meal plans, grocery trip, $50 weekly grocery budget,
When I was choosing what to plan for dinners this week, I had to keep in mind about what meats I had in the freezer.  One pound of hamburger and 11 breast of chicken - what to make with that and not make everyone sick of chicken?  Since the weekends are normally our splurge days, here's what I had planned for this week:

  1. Chicken Alfredo
  2. Tacos
  3. Chicken Nuggets
  4. Spaghetti
The way things are already looking, these might all be carry overs for next week.  It's great to have a surplus of meat in your freezer, but the key is to take them out with enough time to thaw them so that they can be used.  I thought Jon had brought the meat out of the freezer because he was asking about what he needed to bring up from the stand up freezer, but I looked this morning and there's no meat in the fridge thawing.

First stop was, you guessed it, Walmart.  Here's the list of items we needed form there:
  • dishwasher detergent  $2.98
  • Alfredo sauce  $1.95
  • garlic breadsticks  $2.42 x 2 = $4.84
  • spaghetti sauce  $1.95
  • ketchup  $6.52
  • hoagie buns  $2.50
We walked around with Jon's calculator app on the whole time to make sure we didn't go over the budget.  We did really well, spent $21.36.

Normally we would go straight to Wegmans, but Michael was rather cranky and needed to nap so we went home.  I ended up staying with Michael because of not feeling very well, leaving Jon to go finish the shopping on his own.  Here's what he had to get at Wegmans:
  • 1 gallon apple juice  $4.59
  • elbow macaroni noodles  $0.99
  • fettucine noodles  $1.19
  • marinade  $1.29, on sale for $0.99
  • tortilla shells  $0.99
  • spaghetti noodles  $0.99
  • 1 gallon whole milk  $3.29 (down $0.20!)
  • OJ  $2.49
  • potato chips  $2.50
  • deli ham  $3.26
I did get a few phone calls while he was shopping, but amazingly he stuck to the list and the budget.  Jon spent $21.81 at Wegmans.

There was no carry over from last week so the budget was $50.  We ended up spending a grand total of $43.17.  That makes us under budget, again, by $6.83.  I also earned $0.25 for the milk and $0.25 for the ketchup purchases through Ibotta and uploaded my Walmart receipt to Walmart's savings catcher app.
